The Kashmir Files in Indian Sign Language for the First Time in the World

The Kashmir Files broke records at the box office by becoming the first post-pandemic Bollywood movie to reach the 300-crore mark. Starring Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi and Darshan Kumaar in pivotal roles.

Now, ISH News has created a world record by becoming the first media company to interpret The Kashmir Files in Indian Sign Language (ISL) making this movie accessible for the Deaf Community. This bold move was done for the first time in history, and therefore was written in the International Book of Records.

This movie is available to watch on Zee5! With this, the 18 million Deaf individuals in India can now watch and enjoy the movie in their native language! Our skilled interpreters, accurately interpreted the movie in ISL. Their signs, along with their expressions, will ensure Deaf viewers get a clear understanding of the movie. They will not have to depend on their hearing friends and relatives to explain.

A special screening of the movie for 600 Deaf individuals was held at St Andrews Auditorium in Mumbai. The special screening was graced by the ISH News Founder & CEO Mr Alok Kejriwal, Director, Vivek Agnihotri and actor, Darshan Kumaar.

At the screening CEO Mr Alok Kejriwal said, ‘This is a huge moment for the Deaf Community. I hope that this is not the last movie. I urge directors & producers to work with ISH News to make movies an inclusive space for the Deaf!’

Jio Platforms hosted a fireside chat with Mr. Alok Kejriwal – Founder & CEO of ISH News & Mr. Jatin Malhotra- Devices & Products Team- Jio Platforms on 18th December 2020.

Mr. Alok Kejriwal, who is a Deaf individual himself, launched ISH News in 2018. It is the first of its kind app for the Deaf, which broadcasts the Daily News and Entertainment in formats such as Indian Sign Language (ISL), visuals with titles, voice-overs, and closed-captions. Jio recently launched ISH News on Jio Set Top Box to enable the deaf community with quality content.

What got everyone motivated was the sheer energy with which Mr. Kejriwal conversed with Jatin Malhotra on several topics around ISH, its journey, its purpose, challenges faced & the path ahead.

The encouragement & questions from the audience kept pouring in. While the spirit of Mr. Kejriwal was in itself exemplary, what also got the audience awe-struck was the fact that the staff at ISH News comprises of 90% deaf individuals. The session left everyone inspired, reinforcing the fact that how diversity is all about embracing one another’s uniqueness!
